Joanne Teichman

Jet-setting, Instagram-loving party planner extraordinaire (and a pioneer of our industry to boot), Ylang23's Joanne Teichman has changed the way the world buys fine jewelry. Along with our favorite Frenchman, her husband, Charles, this Dallas-based philanthropic family affair has created one of the most widely-known online destinations for designer jewels.

Good things come in 23s.

It’s an epic year – 35 years of marriage, 30 years in business!

Let’s have dinner at your favorite neighborhood restaurant. Where do we go and what do we eat?

Will be so happy to take you to OSO, a new Mediterranean restaurant. Love their chicken meatballs, steak kabob, and will break my Paleo diet for their Chocolate Decadence dessert.

If you could buy any piece of contemporary jewelry, what would it be?

I could be very happy with Tomasz Donocik's new Electric Night Wing Ring. Very happy!

The vacation spot that you keep going back to over and over?

Newport Beach, Laguna, LA, our moods brighten wherever we land in Southern California.

What’s the last book you couldn’t put down?

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Have read a bunch since then and none are as memorable.

Secret/favorite spot for cocktails at a trade show?

Our hotel suite is just fine.

The gemstone you’re currently lusting after is . . .

Tanzanite.

[Ed. note: FFR suggests Arman's tanzanite and diamond hoops.]

It’s your birthday and your favorite flower arrangement arrives – what does it look like?

My dream is that Eric Buterbaugh delivers to Dallas. His roses are over the top and I'm excited about his new niche fragrance line.

You have 30 minutes to work out – what do you do?

Power Nap.

What was the first piece of jewelry you bought for yourself?

I bought an 18-Karat gold bangle in Israel for an ungodly amount of money.

If you could have dinner with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Janis Joplin, I'll never forget her performance when I was in college (she died two years later) and she drank so much Southern Comfort she jumped off the stage into the crowd and nearly started a riot. I figure at dinner she might start out sober and we could really talk. (Ed note: This is her tactic with me, as well...she's good!)

Take a picture of the most sentimental piece of jewelry you own and tell us the back story.

My mom's gold filagree bracelet finished with a lucky clover. I wear it when I want to take Mom to cool places. [Ed. note: Shown in gallery with Jemma Wynne's engraved rectangle closed bangle with pave diamond border – Joanne rocks hers with J+C.]

What’s your preferred mode of transportation day-to-day? (Tell us about your car, motorcycle, bicycle, taxi, Uber, skateboard...)

It's Dallas Baby, we drive! Currently in my Lexus, please drop a hint to Charles that I want the Tesla!

Top 5 bands in your playlist - go!

I'm either addicted to music from my college years – Queen, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimmie Hendrix, The Who – or I'm perfectly happy with a good current playlist, preferably rock. Oops, that was six!

You’re having guests for the weekend. What’s your signature dish that you cook for them?

There is always a great salad on our table. Always.

Be honest – who’s your celebrity crush?!

Don't have many but I love January Jones.

[Ed. note: JoJo's girl crush, January Jones, shown in gallery wearing triple drop triangle earrings by Jennifer Meyer, another top Ylang 23 designer.]

If you could only carry one handbag for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Currently alternating between two recent gifts from Charles, a black St. Laurent bag, and a butterfly orchid tote from Givenchy. Oh, and a small metallic gold shoulder bag from St. Laurent. One, really?

What’s your signature scent and what three words would you use to describe it?

I just dumped my decades-old signature scent of L'Heure Bleu by Guerlain for Eric Buterbaugh's soon-to-be-released floral niche perfumes. They make me so happy!

If you could sit front row at any fashion show, which would it be and why?

Lanvin. Just love Alber Elbaz

Tell us your beauty secrets (think: can’t-live-without makeup and skincare).

Currently dumped my Sunday Riley kick (daughter Alysa got me hooked), for Dallas Esthetician Renée Rouleau and her products, and am seeing results after two weeks!

Signature nail polish and/or lipstick shade for a night on the town?

Raspberry or a more summery pink.
